Extractions

Tooth Extraction

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. While preserving natural teeth is always our priority, there are times when an extraction is necessary for your overall oral health.

Our gentle, professional extractions are performed with your comfort in mind. Whether it's a damaged, decayed, or impacted tooth, we provide safe, efficient care to protect your oral health and get you back to smiling.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure to extract the third molars—usually the last teeth to emerge in the back of your mouth. These teeth often cause pain, crowding, or become impacted, leading to potential infections or other dental problems.

Our experienced team provides safe, comfortable wisdom tooth extractions to help you avoid future issues and protect your oral health. Whether your wisdom teeth are already causing discomfort or you're being proactive, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Tooth Extractions in Lutz, FL

Why You Might Need a Tooth Extraction

Tooth extractions are often necessary when a tooth is damaged beyond repair or when it poses a risk to your overall oral health. Common reasons for a tooth extraction include:

  • Severe Decay: When a tooth is too decayed to be restored with a filling or crown.

  • Infection: If the tooth or surrounding tissues are infected and a root canal isn’t sufficient.

  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth: Wisdom teeth that don’t have enough space to come in properly, causing pain and potential alignment issues.

  • Orthodontic Treatment: Sometimes, teeth need to be removed to make room for proper alignment during braces or other orthodontic procedures.

Types of Tooth Extractions We Offer

Simple Extractions: Involves removing a visible tooth that’s easily accessible. This is typically done under local anesthesia, ensuring a quick and relatively painless procedure.

Surgical Extractions: Needed when a tooth is broken beneath the gum line or hasn’t fully erupted. These extractions may require a small incision and are typically performed under local anesthesia or sedation.

The Tooth Extraction Process

  1.  Consultation & Examination: During your initial visit, we’ll take X-rays to assess the tooth and surrounding structures. We’ll discuss your options and answer any questions you have about the procedure.

  2. Anesthesia: To ensure your comfort, we’ll use local anesthesia to numb the area. For more complex extractions, sedation may be recommended.

  3. Extraction: We’ll gently remove the tooth, using techniques designed to minimize discomfort and accelerate healing.

  4. Post-Extraction Care: After the extraction, we’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions, including recommendations for pain management, swelling reduction, and dietary restrictions to promote healing.

Recovery After a Tooth Extraction

While recovery times can vary based on the complexity of the extraction, most patients can expect the following:

  • Swelling & Discomfort: Mild swelling and discomfort are normal during the first few days. We recommend ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers to manage these symptoms.

  • Healing Time: Simple extractions typically heal within a few days, while surgical extractions may take up to two weeks for full recovery.

  • Aftercare: It’s essential to follow our aftercare instructions, including avoiding sucking motions (like using a straw), refraining from smoking, and maintaining good oral hygiene.
